Game of Thrones - The Red Woman

Game of Thrones - The Red Woman S06E01

Season 6 is all like 'sit the fuck down and strap yourself in'. We got some stories to tell. It's so good to be back with the gang and picking up right where season five left us, these are my top moments of The Red Woman episode.

Jon Snow - Still dead

Jon Snow

I loved that Davos (aka the Onion Knight) was the one to find Jon Snow's body. Davos brings a level of empathy to Game of Thrones that not many other characters do. And though Jon still remains a corpse I feel like the chess pieces are being moved into position to progress the story.

Ramsey's new pet food business

I don't think Ramsey had enough hugs as a child - And just when you think that character can't get any darker, he steps it up a notch with his reflection on the Kennel Master's daughter, Miranda, who died last season.

While looking at her body he's asked: "What should we do with the body? Dig a Grave? Build a pyre?". "Nope, she's good meat, fed her to the hounds". Twisted stuff.

I think the pressure that he's under to find Sansa is going to drive him to some even darker places this season.

Sansa & Theon hit the road

Sansa & Theon

When Sansa and Theon were running through the woods and Ramsay's men were closing in on them I remember thinking to myself, please don't get caught, I can't take it.

Then when Brienne and Podrick ride in to save the day I was literally cheering! Finally, Sansa has a sworn knight at her side to give her some much needed protection and Brienne has a Stark to protect. So while I cheer for Brienne I guess this means that Stannis is really dead.

It was also awesome to see Podrick putting some of his training to use.

The Slippery Snakes of Dorne

With the murder of Prince Doran and his son Trystane Martell. Dorne looks like it's officially entered the Game of Thrones. It will be interesting to see what happens in this space, hopefully they have time to bring this story to life before the war of ice and fire consumes everyone! Based on how quickly things seem to be moving I wouldn't be surprised to see Dorne's army mobilised in the coming episodes.

Melisandre's secret

Melisandre

So maybe the biggest plot twist of all - Melisandre is an ancient old witch?! What does it mean, why was it important to tell us this? Will she be able to bring Jon back? So many questions.

The night certainly is dark and full of terrors.

Predictions for the rest of the season

  • The Wildling's will come to the aid of the Night's Watch members loyal to Jon Snow
  • Davos will find out that Princess Shireen was sacrificed at the hand of Melisandre and their already frail allegiance will shatter with potentially dastardly consequences
  • Cersei Lannister will get to kill the Sister of Mercy who forced the confession from her last season
  • Daenerys Targaryen will take one step forward and two back, effectively being no further ahead than she is now. Though in her darkest moment she'll summon a dragon.
  • Arya Stark will become Daredevil

Even though we jumped around a lot of characters tonight it was still a really great episode. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.
